Guide for Authors

Instructions and Conditions for Submitting Scholarly Manuscripts to the Scientific Quarterly of Theatre

  1. Manuscripts must include the following sections in order: Abstract (maximum 300 words), Keywords (up to seven), Introduction, Discussion and Analysis, and Conclusion. The journal does not accept lengthy manuscripts exceeding 8,000 words.

  2. The journal follows the officially approved Persian orthography issued by the Academy of Persian Language and Literature (latest edition). The use of half-spaces in typing is mandatory. All stages of typesetting, proofreading, and final editing after acceptance will be carried out by the journal.

  3. Author information (first and last name, academic rank, name of affiliated university or institution, address, telephone, and fax number) must be provided on a separate page.

  4. Submission of an English abstract (300–500 words) on a separate page is mandatory. This abstract must include the article title, author name(s), institutional affiliation(s), and academic rank(s).

  5. References cited in the text, tables, and figures must be listed at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order by the authors’ last names, formatted as follows:

    • Books: Last name, First name (Year of publication). Title of the Book (italicized). Translator’s first and last name, volume, edition, place of publication, publisher.

    • Articles published in journals: Last name, First name (Year). Title of the article. Title of the Journal (italicized), volume (issue), page range.

    • Translated articles in journals: Last name, First name (Year). Title of the article. Translator’s first and last name. Title of the Journal (italicized), volume (issue), page range.

    • Online sources: Last name, First name (Year of publication). Title of the article. Title of the electronic journal (italicized), volume, date of access.

  6. For articles extracted from theses or dissertations, the supervisor’s name must be listed as the second author and designated as the corresponding author. For jointly authored articles, the corresponding author must be clearly identified.

  7. In-text citations must appear in parentheses as follows: (Last name, Year: page number(s)). For non-Persian sources, the same format applies without translation (e.g., Author, Year: pp.). Direct quotations exceeding forty words must be set apart from the main text and indented 2 cm from the right margin.

  8. All titles (books, plays, performances, films, etc.) must be italicized, while article titles should be enclosed in quotation marks.

  9. All explanatory notes (including explanations and English equivalents of names and titles) must be placed at the end of the article in the footnotes section.

  10. Acceptance of manuscripts is subject to approval by the Editorial Council. Manuscripts must not have been previously published in any domestic or international journals or conference proceedings. Authors are required to notify the journal office if the manuscript has been published elsewhere or has received an acceptance letter.

  11. The Scientific Quarterly of Theatre accepts only Persian-language articles in the field of theatre theory and criticism that are original research produced by the author(s), except in cases where the journal announces publication in a second language in advance.

  12. The journal reserves the right to perform literary and stylistic editing of accepted manuscripts without altering their content.

  13. The English abstract will be edited after acceptance, and its linguistic and stylistic editing will be the responsibility of the journal.

  14. Authors whose manuscripts require revision are requested to indicate all changes using a different color and specify the type of revision through comments in the text.


Article Processing Charges

In accordance with the directive issued by the Ministry of Science in April 2022 regarding article processing charges for open-access scientific journals, and in line with standard practices of open-access journals worldwide, the following fees apply:

  1. Initial editorial review fee: 1,000,000 IRR

  2. Peer-review fee: 3,000,000 IRR

  3. Publication fee: 6,000,000 IRR

Authors are required, at each stage, to deposit the designated fee into the following bank account:

The payment receipt must be uploaded in the “Additional Files” section of the submission system.
